How to Improve Our Failed Drug Policy
Our courts are flooded with many cases of petty drug use crimes such as possession of illegal drugs, drug trafficking or addicts who have engaged in low level nonviolent criminal and illegal activates to acquire the type of drugs they want. Sometimes, addicts are arrested more than once because they commit new crimes. All these indicate a failed drug policy and poor law enforcement process.
Considering the negative consequence associated with the use of illegal drugs such as cocaine, heroin and many more, it is imperative that our government comes up with tighter laws to curb these illegal activities. If the necessary steps are not taken to curb these illegal substances, we may end up losing what our forefathers have worked so hard to build for years.
Drugs damage our social and economic structures. They are the reason why there are many family breakages and rampant crimes in our cities. No one would want to lose a loved one because they used illegal drugs. Therefore, it is important that we evaluate our current drug policy, and come up with a more efficient system to control these illegal activities.
If we are to achieve success in curbing the use of these illegal substances, we should know that it is not only the responsibility of the government to control these activities. We should take individual responsibility. If our current drug policy is to be improved, we need to help the government implement it.
Stepping Up As A Parent
First, as parents, we should inform our children especially those in the adolescence stage the negative effects of taking these drugs. Note that most of the drug traffickers’ young people aged between 18 to 30 years. If we bring up our children with the right morals, they will actually avoid drug activities because they are totally aware of their effects.
Apart from rising up our children with the right morals, we should mind about the well being of our society. For instance, if there are drugs manufacturers, distributors, users or addicts in your neighborhood, you should make sure that you inform the right Law enforcement authorities.
Drug Trafficking Is Increasing
The reason why drug trafficking has increased in the last few decades is because we all ignore the happenings in our society. A law enforcement officer cannot be aware of everything that is happening around you. Therefore, it is your responsibility to keep them informed of any unlawful behaviors in your area. This way we will certainly reduce the high number of drug businesses in our state.
In addition to being fully responsible, we need to come up with ways to treat the already addicted people in our society. The government should et aside funds to offer rehabilitating services to the affected. They can do that by funding the already present drug rehabs as well as establishing new ones.
This will not only improve the already failed drug policy but will also establish a bright future for our young people. The world belongs to us all. Regardless of whether you are young or old, we should take the necessary steps to safeguard it. We can do achieve this if all work to revive, improve and implement the failed drug policy.
